About faculty

Faculty of Engineering

Initially, the Faculty trained specialists in programming, construction, mechanical engineering technology and food processing. In 1996, the education of specialists in environmental sciences was initiated.

Since its foundation, the faculty has developed. Currently, studies and research are carried out in four areas:

  • Information technology, computer engineering, electronics, telecommunications, computer management and computer science;
  • Mechanical and metal engineering, thermal energetics, thermal and mechanical engineering;
  • Architecture and Civil Engineering;
  • Manufacturing and processing.

In order to carry out research in the field of engineering and technology, to execute research contract works in engineering and related interdisciplinary fields, to ensure research and scientific activity, access to science-based higher education, knowledge transfer to the national economy and cooperation with the industrial sphere for the economic growth of Latgale, Latvia and Europe, an IF structural unit RTA Engineering Institute has been established and is actively operating.

Microsoft

The cooperation with Microsoft and Microsoft Latvia started in 2007.

Currently, all RTA students and teaching staff have access to Microsoft Office.com online products, which include - Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneDrive, Forms, Teams, Sharepoint, etc. In addition, students can install Microsoft Office Pro Plus on their personal devices free of charge.

Students and faculty members of the Faculty of Engineering can use the cloud services and development tools offered by Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching.

Cisco

In 2007, RTA became a Cisco Networking Academy affiliate, enabling students to use Cisco's online learning platform, software and hardware in a variety of courses.

MikroTik

Within the framework of the cooperation (since 2012), with the support of "Mikrotīkls" Ltd., students have been provided with equipment necessary for study process and the Academy`s computer network has been regularly updated.

MIDIS

We are proud of Midis Ltd., software development company, founded by RTA graduates. By working in joint projects and providing students with internships and workplaces for several years, Midis Ltd. has established itself as a serious and innovative company in Rezekne.

LIKTA

The Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association (LIKTA) brings together leading companies and organisations in the field, as well as ICT professionals - more than 150 members in total. RTA has been a member of LIKTA since 2006.

LIKTA is one of the most influential and active professional associations in Latvia, being able to address a variety of important and topical issues in the sector.

LATA

RTA is a member of the Latvian Open Technology Association (LATA) since 2018.

LATA brings together organisations and individuals, including information technology providers and users, who see economic benefits for themselves, their organisation or society as a whole from the wider use of open technologies in Latvia.
