Special interest tourism

What is this course about?

The course provides a comprehensive overview of different types of tourism. Special interest tourism includes the following types of tourism: art, event, culture, festival, region, sport, tourism of cultural heritage objects, historical places, education, gastro tourism. Special adventure tourism is a rapidly growing and profitable global tourism industry. It helps prevent cultural and interest clashes between different interest groups and help highlight tourism diversity. Special interest tourism is also a tool for diversifying the tourism offer.

Audience: for industry professionals as well as other interested parties with and without prior knowledge.

Planned results: To improve knowledge about special interest tourism (also known as specialized tourism or SIT) and the possibilities of this industry, as well as to create awareness for the business of a small, special interest tourism business.

Knowledge related to special interest tourism theory, terms and concepts, special interest business entrepreneurship is acquired.

·      To understand the main theoretical perspectives of special interest tourism and the latest trends in tourism,

·      To know various special interest tourism products categories,

·      to understand the diversity of tourist motivations and the equally diverse range of specialized tourism products,

·      to analyze business and various special relevance of tourism categories, products and markets of interest in relation to the opportunities of hospitality and tourism organizations.

·      identify different types of tourism products and their relationship with tourism demand,

·      learn to explain the differences between special interest tourism and mass tourism,

·      analyze the dynamics of special interest tourism,

·      evaluate the resources needed for the development of special tourism products,

·      demonstrate an understanding of globalization and its impact on individuals, in a consumer-oriented society and the associated increase in special tourism destinations and products and diversification.
